About East Bay CDC

East Bay Community Development corporation is a non-profit corporation that has been in existence for over 13 years. Formerly known as the Bristol Foundation, it was founded in 1989 as a result of a study commissioned by the Town of Bristol. The goal was to determine what could be done to energize and revive the blighted neighborhood surrounding the former Kaiser Mill complex which had stood empty for over 20 years. So it was that East Bay CDC was established to create and maintain affordable housing for the town's low to moderate income citizens in the face of the then continually rising housing prices and the stagnation of wages.

Starting with the purchase of a two family home on Wilson Street in 1989, the foundation moved along toward its goal. Next East Bay CDC rehabilitated 123,000 square feet of the former Kaiser Mill complex, into 98 units of affordable independent housing for people 62 years of age and older and office spaces of the East Bay Regional Offices for the Department of Children Youth and Families. This complex also has a 92 unit assisted living facility, Franklin Court Assisted Living. Franklin court Assisted Living is 1 of only 2 in the State of RI that can offer Medicaid waivers to low income elderly that need assistance yet are not ready to go into a nursing home. The Assisted Living facility opened November 1, 2000, there is currently a waiting list for the waiver units.

Today, East Bay CDC owns and manages 244 apartment units in multiple scattered sites throughout Bristol., Warren, and Barrington. In addition East Bay CDC has provided down payment assistance and education to several families in the area, which allowed these families to become first time homebuyers.

Currently, East Bay CDC is working to expand their inventory of affordable housing units in response to the increasing demand in the area for apartments that low to mod income families can afford to rent, as well as increasing our property management portfolio in an effort to become self supportive on the operating side.

It is the mission of the East Bay Community Development Corporation to preserve the quality of family and community life in the East Bay by insuring that a full range of a attractive housing opportunity are available to meet the needs of all our residents.
